It seems like everything in today’s world has a price tag, but college football programs don’t fit into that idea. The sale of sports teams are some of the biggest transactions in the world, with franchises often being sold for billions of dollars. With as big of an industry as college football is, there’s no question some programs would be fetching similar amounts in a hypothetical deal.
Penn State is one of the oldest and most storied teams in the sport, with a 139-year history that includes 34 Bowl Game wins and two national championships. There are some programs out there who have had more success, but very few are more renowned. Matt Baker of The Athletic recently calculated a hypothetical valuation for college football teams , and the Nittany Lions were one of the most valuable, with Baker estimating them to be worth $1.4 billion.
