The Federal Government has launched the National Grassroots Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Penetration Programme in Bayelsa State, targeting 27,000 households with cooking gas as part of efforts to expand access to clean energy and reduce the cost of LPG.
Flagging off the initiative in Yenagoa on Tuesday, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the programme reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s over 215 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves translate into tangible benefits for citizens.
He explained that the Decade of Gas Initiative aims to move five million Nigerian households to LPG by 2030, with Bayelsa chosen as the first state for the nationwide rollout because of its status as a major gas-producing state.
