Scottie Scheffler posted his fifth second-place finish on the PGA Tour on July 26 in the 3M Open . Rookie Jackson Koivun was rock-solid and didn't open the door for Scheffler by making mistakes down the stretch at the TPC Twin Cities, so Scheffler settled for another runner-up check ($959,000) while Koivun made $1,584,000 for his first PGA Tour title.
That gives Scheffler nearly $17 million in earnings this season and with all of his closest pursuers taking the week off, he increased his lead over No. 2 Cameron Young to nearly $3 million, and his margin over No. 3 Matt Fitzpatrick to more than $6 million.
Young is playing the next two weeks, in the Rocket Classic and the Wyndham Championship, where he is defending his title. He would have to win both tournaments (collecting $3,150,000 if he does) to pass Scheffler heading into the FedEx Cup Playoffs, where purses in the first two…
