The Pirates first baseman returned to Pittsburgh this week to be evaluated by the training staff after being hit in the head with a pitch.
Horwitz was hit while playing for the Bradenton Marauders on a rehab assignment on July 25.
The Pirates announced that Horwitz is dealing with a concussion.
Horwitz has been out a month with a left hamstring injury and was placed on the 10-day IL on June 25.
In 74 games, Horwitz is slashing .280/.386/.455 with 11 doubles, 10 home runs, and 33 RBIs in 295 plate appearances.
