The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated closer Edwin Diaz from the injured list Wednesday, designating Charlie Barnes for assignment in a corresponding move.

Diaz, who the Dodgers signed to a three-year, $69 million deal in the offseason, has been out since April after undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow . He had a strong five outings to kick off his season, allowing just one earned run through five innings pitched, but struggled through his last couple of appearances before landing on the IL.
In the first of the two, Diaz allowed three runs in one inning pitched against the Texas Rangers , blowing a race but ultimately earning a win in the outing. The following game, though, Diaz didn’t record an out before allowing three earned runs on three hits and a walk.
