For years, Aisha Umar slept with one eye open. She survived the attack that destroyed her village in Nigeria's North-East. Her husband never returned. Her children grew up inside an internally displaced persons, IDPs, camp, where survival became a daily struggle rather than a temporary reality.

Then one day she heard the news that unsettled her more than the gunfire she had once fled.
Some of the men who had surrendered after fighting for Boko Haram were completing rehabilitation programmes and preparing to return to society.
The announcement divided the country. To some, it represented hope, proof that guns could be silenced without endless bloodshed. To others, it felt like a painful betrayal.
