The New York Jets placed veteran edge rusher Joseph Ossai on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to start training camp, the team confirmed.
Ossai will be ineligible to practice at camp until he passes a physical and gets activated off the list. It adds a bit more pressure for rookie No. 2 overall pick David Bailey to hit the ground running at camp .
Jets general manager Darren Mougey signed Ossai to a three-year contract worth $34.5 million in free agency this offseason. Indications are Ossai is working through a minor undisclosed injury and won't be sidelined for long. For however long Ossai remains on the PUP, it could mean additional reps with the first-team defense for Bailey.
