Decisions surrounding the quarterback will always have extra attention added based on how important having a reliable quarterback is in the NFL. Then there are the Minnesota Vikings and their competition. After a season of ineffective quarterback play, the team turned to J.J. McCarthy and let Sam Darnold walk to Seattle, which resulted in a Super Bowl title for the Seahawks. That decision has had a butterfly effect on the Vikings organization and the quarterback position.
The team decided to give Kyler Murray a prove-it, one-year deal to compete with McCarthy. Murray will likely start Week 1.
But did the Darnold decision set off a chain reaction that could cost O'Connell his job in Minnesota?
