PAWTUCKET – There’s one Rhode Islander left standing in the 2026 RIGA Boys Junior Amateur Championship , while three All-Staters will battle along with a middle schooler for the girls title.
Morning rain didn’t stop play at Pawtucket Country Club, turning the quarterfinal matches into a test of golf and survival. On the boys side, Ishaan Catone flipped the script on Tuesday’s underdog winner to make him the only Rhode Island resident to advance to the semifinals. For the girls, three of the state’s top high school stars reached the semis with Providence’s Hazel Hegstrom – a rising eighth-grader – joining Thursday’s semifinals.
Catone, a Cranston native going to the ninth grade in the fall, found himself up against No. 16 Nathan Jackson, who pulled off the upset over medalist Raj Mammen on Day 1 of match play. Catone, seeded eighth, traded holes with Jackson before taking a 1-up lead…
