CHICAGO – One of Wisconsin ’s top offensive linemen won’t be 100% at the start of fall camp.
Badgers coach Luke Fickell said redshirt sophomore Emerson Mandell is still recovering from a foot injury he suffered during spring practice. The injury required surgery and kept him out of the final half of spring workouts.
The setback will affect Mandell’s availability for fall camp, which begins Aug. 6.
“It'll be slower getting him back into camp,” Fickell said July 28 during Big Ten media days at the Hilton Hotel.
What that means in terms of how much work the 6-foot-5, 325-pound redshirt sophomore can handle wasn’t clear but Fickell believes he'll eventually have one of the team's few returning starters.
“We expect him to be okay,” Fickell said. “It'll be how comfortable is he … I know that we're going to be limited rep-wise as we start camp, so it'll be interesting to see how far…
