Jul. 30—When the coaches gave Malcolm Thomas reasons he should return to the Dayton Flyers for the 2026-27 season, their pitch came down to this:
"Everything that was true at first is still true."
In other words, Thomas transferred from Villanova to Dayton in the spring of 2025 for a variety of reasons — a better fit, stronger relationships with the coaches and more playing time, etc. — and all that is still there as he prepares for his third season in college basketball.
"Everything about their goals for me," Thomas said, "everything that they believe that I can be as a basketball player, every aspect of this team being successful running with me, that hasn't changed. Since we're on the same path, the same things can be accomplished."
Thomas, a 6-8 forward from Mitchellville, Md., and DeMatha Catholic High School, announced in April he would remain with the Flyers for a second…
