Carlos Sainz has delivered a blunt, pessimistic assessment of Williams’ struggling 2026 Formula 1 campaign, suggesting the team should completely abandon their current development cycle and shift their resources entirely toward next year.
Despite Williams Team Principal James Vowles publicly promising an “almost entirely new car” and massive weight-reduction upgrades for the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix in September, Sainz has essentially written off the package before it even hits the track.
Speaking to Spanish outlet MARCA during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, Sainz pointed to rival team Aston Martin as the ultimate benchmark for mid-season development.
