It seems that the Boston Celtics had been trying to trade away star forward Jaylen Brown longer than had been previously assumed according to new reporting from senior ESPN contributor Shams Charania. For fans of the Celtics, the trade of Brown seemed to come out of nowhere, materializing rapidly in the wake of the failed pursuit of former Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo after arguably the best campaign of the Georgia native's career.
But per Charania, Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and company had been trying to deal Brown to the Golden State Warriors during the 2025-26 regular season.
"The Warriors could have got in the Jaylen Brown sweepstakes if they wanted to give up 4 first-round picks-ish, in that range," said the reporter via Boston Dot Com's Conor Ryan. "They decided not to from my understanding."
