Former Bundesliga coach Christian Streich was the latest football figure to hit out at FIFA and its president Gianni Infantino in connection with World Cup investor plans.
“What’s going on there is mafia-style behaviour,” Streich told Sky TV. “What’s happening at FIFA is highly corrupt. These are simply mafia-like structures.”
FIFA announced on Tuesday that it wants to raise a billion-dollar sum by potentially selling part of its commercial rights, including those related to the World Cup.
UEFA’s 55 national associations jointly announced a boycott of FIFA competitions if the world governing body does not abandon the plan, and confederations from Asian and North and Central America/Caribbean also oppose the plan. In addition, Infantino's senior adviser, Carlos Cordeiro, has quit.
