Stephen A. Smith said on his eponymous podcast that he regrets his remarks on Kyrie Irving , who was a staunch critic of the league’s COVID protocols nearly six years ago.
During Irving’s controversial standoff with the Brooklyn Nets, where the NBA star was only allowed to play home games because he didn’t want to get vaccinated, Smith was among those who criticized Irving, calling him the culprit behind the team’s dented championship aspirations at the time.
“Kyrie Irving did nobody wrong. We did him wrong. I did him wrong. And for that, I’m sincerely sorry,” Smith stated. “I just thought it was important to say that… I need to do better. I’m not alone, but I’m responsible for me. I need to do better. And I will.”
