FIFA launch disciplinary proceedings against Argentina over Falklands banner and assault in World Cup final
FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Argentina following a series of incidents that took place during the World Cup.
According to the Daily Mail , the incidents include the display of a controversial Falklands banner after their semi-final victory over England and violent clashes that followed the final against Spain.
The governing body confirmed that it is investigating several alleged breaches of its disciplinary rules.
These include discriminatory chants and gestures, racist abuse, security and match protocol violations, supporters throwing objects, and the display of political messages by both players and fans during Argentina’s World Cup campaign.
The biggest point of controversy came after Argentina defeated England in the semi-finals.
