When it comes to the Thunder’s offseason, one question continues to linger: Why hasn’t Cason Wallace signed an extension yet?
For a lot of fans, that immediately raises concern. Wallace has quickly established himself as one of Oklahoma City’s most valuable young players, and after watching the franchise lock up Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, it’s easy to wonder if something is wrong.
The reality is it may not be and it’s just a matter of time before a deal gets done.
If one doesn’t though, the Thunder could simply decide not to extend Wallace before the October deadline and instead allow him to become a restricted free agent next summer. At first, that sounds like a dangerous game to play, because it kind of is, but it could actually make more sense than people think.
