Playing in the NFL comes with a surefire injury rate. It doesn't matter which position you play, how well you train or how much care you take of your body—it's going to happen sooner or later.
Unfortunately, it sometimes happen before the season even begins.
Such is the case for Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Nic Scourton, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the team's first outing of training camp on Thursday. The second-year pass rusher would be carted off the practice field in a grim scene, and was officially placed on injured reserve this morning.
Scourton was coming off an impressive rookie campaign, where he tied for a team-leading 5.0 sacks. He was supposed to play a big role for the Panthers defense in 2026, projected as the starting edge rusher next to free-agent acquisition Jaelan Phillips.
