Roman Wilson is heading into one of the most important seasons of his young career, but one NFL legend delivered a brutal analysis of where he stands within the Pittsburgh Steelers : He’s the “ugly baby” of the receiver room.
On a new episode of the 89 podcast, NFL legend Steve Smith Sr. pointed out that the praise Wilson receives is actually more concerning than complimentary.
“Here’s what I hear: He’s a great kid, excellent blocker. You never wanna hear that when you’re a wide receiver," Smith said about Wilson. "Excellent blocker, that’s like the ugly baby. There is value. So much value they drafted someone else.”
Smith also went on to point out why he gives Germie Bernard the edge over Wilson the WR3 battle, arguing the biggest difference is the ability (or inability in Wilson's case) to get off press coverage.
