When the Portland Cascade selected shortstop Sis Bates in the third round of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League Allocation Draft, the new organization expected the former Washington Huskies star to be a cornerstone for the franchise, and she's done just that.
Bates helped lead the Cascade to the playoffs in its first season, before falling to the Chicago Bandits 6-5 in 11 innings on Thursday night with a chance to face the Utah Talons in the AUSL Championship on the line. However, the Bandits rallied from a 5-4 deficit in the final frame for a walk-off win, ending Portland's chance for a title.
As Bates' first year with her new team comes to a close, she put together a strong campaign back in the Pacific Northwest and earned a selection to the AUSL All-Star Cup .
