Former DFL investor advocate Hans-Joachim Watzke brands FIFA plan “an absolute attack on football.”
German footballing administrative heavyweight Hans-Joachim Watzke has sharply criticized FIFA’s plans to open the commercial rights connected to its most important competitions to private investors.
FIFA confirmed on Tuesday that it intends to establish FIFA Forward Enterprise, a subsidiary encompassing commercial and event operations related to competitions including the men’s and women’s World Cups and the Club World Cup. Outside investors could purchase minority shares in the new company.
