FIFA opens the door to private investment in the World Cup; UEFA responds: No one owns football FIFA, the global governing body of football, and UEFA, the governing body of European football, remain on a collision course. The latest episode between the two centres on FIFA’s reported intention to open the door to private investment in the World Cup.
In an official statement sent to newsrooms, FIFA clarified that it aims to 'increase funding for football development to more than 10 billion US dollars, subject to approval by FIFA’s Member Associations (MAs).'
The organisation says this increase would provide $20 million (US dollars) per association as exceptional and immediate funding for special projects under FIFA’s new Fast-Forward Programme (FFFP), $20 million per MA in advance funding for the 2027 to 2030 period (currently budgeted at seven million euros), a further $22 million in…
