Eddie Howe was described as “detached from reality” by one Newcastle United fan, with another unsure “what game he was watching” after giving his final interview before leaving his role as Magpies boss.
Newcastle were thrashed 4-1 by Championship side Bristol City in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday evening and Howe was interviewed by the club’s official website in the aftermath.
He appeared surprisingly upbeat despite the heavy loss yet, on Thursday morning, news emerged that he would be leaving his job just weeks before the start of the new Premier League season.
