WEST SACRAMENTO — Instant reactions from the Red Sox ' 4-2 win over the Athletics at Sutter Health Park on Wednesday:
1. The Red Sox improved to 56-51 while the Athletics dropped to 45-63.
2. Andruw Monasterio’s 428-foot two-run home run to left field off A’s reliever José Suarez put the Red Sox ahead 4-2 in the 10th inning. It marked Boston’s first lead of the game.
Monasterio stroked three hits.
Greg Weissert threw a scoreless bottom of the 10th inning with two strikeouts to record his first save.
3. Monasterio’s home run came after Lawrence Butler just missed a walkoff home run against Aroldis Chapman in the bottom of the ninth.
Butler hit a 385-foot double hit the left field. Donovan Walton laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Butler to third base with one out. But Chapman struck out both Jacob Wilson and Jeff McNeil swinging to escape with the game tied 2-2.
