Folks around the continental United States would be hard-pressed to find a 31-year-old NFL free agent still giving back to his hometown high school some 13 years after graduation.
But there sat former Woodlawn defensive back Donovan Wilson Friday afternoon in the Knights’ auditorium on Wyngate Boulevard autographing photos and talking with fans, like former Woodlawn coach Jerwin Wilson, while supporters passed out 500 backpacks and others gave free haircuts to youngsters from the surrounding neighborhood.
“I’m just trying to give light to the youth and show some love to where I come from and what I wanted when I was younger,” said Wilson, who spent seven seasons with the Cowboys before a separation following last season. “I appreciate being in this position and to be able to do what I’m doing.”
