Joe Gomez went down off the ball - George Walker IV Andoni Iraola is fretting about an injury to Joe Gomez that has threatened to leave Liverpool’s central defensive options under significant pressure.
Gomez, Liverpool’s longest-serving player, went down after seven minutes of Iraola’s first game as head coach against Sunderland, which his team won 4-2. He was attended to by club doctor Jonathon Power and Chris Morgan, head of physiotherapy, but immediately substituted.
Though Gomez was able to walk off slowly, Iraola was obviously concerned after the game and with good reason. Jeremy Jacquet, the £60m signing from Rennes, could not make his debut in Nashville as he needs more time to train. He might be fit to face Leeds in Chicago next week.
