The United Nations Population Fund (UNFP) has stated that a survey it conducted in Nigeria shows that many youths are single due to economic and housing constraints.
Speaking during the commemoration of the 2026 World Population Day, UNFPA’s Nigeria Resident Representative, Muriel Mafiko, said many youth are longing to have their own family but they face many barriers which include; unemployment and underemployment, rising living and housing costs, insecurity and unequal access to quality education and healthcare, including sexual reproductive health services.
She said these conditions can and do limit their choices and make it difficult for them to plan confidently for their future.
