I spent most of last Monday watching on live television the choreographed happenings in front of 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British Prime Minister. It was a day full of high drama, when Prime Minister Keir Starmer resigned and was replaced by the Mayor of Manchester, Andy Burnham.
The day opened with a crowd of journalists, alongside camera operators, lining the street directly facing the No 10 door and looking at it with keen anticipation. On either side of the No 10 door, ministers of the Crown, family members and close associates of the Prime Minister Starmer had crowded up awaiting him to come out and give his address. In due course, Starmer emerged with his wife and gave a rousing address, telling the nation that he would go to the King that day to resign his appointment as Prime Minister.
