United States Department of State has announced the issuance of 250,000 limited-edition commemorative passports as part of activities to mark the nation's 250th anniversary.
In a statement i Thursday unveiling the initiative, the department described the American passport as more than a travel document, saying it represents a symbol of national identity and a reminder of the bond shared by citizens wherever they are in the world.
“An American passport is more than just a travel document; it’s a physical piece of our national identity, a reminder that wherever you are in the world, you are an American,” the statement read.
The department said the special-edition passports were introduced in response to overwhelming public demand.
