In June, Jackson Koivun announced he was going pro. Less than two months later, in his third PGA Tour start, the 21-year-old shot 25 under par to win the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine.
Koivun became the first player ever to sweep all four major collegiate awards in a single season at Auburn University. In 2025, he reached No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. But he’s no longer an amateur, and the question entering this week has been whether he had the goods to hold up in the big leagues.
If this tournament was any indicator, the answer is yes. Koivun outshot globally ranked No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by three strokes.
Scheffler, who has won four majors and has been named PGA Tour Player of the Year for four consecutive seasons, is the reigning king of golf. Koivun may be the face of the next generation.
