Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy noted at a training camp press conference this week that there would be no live tackling during camp. This is a serious departure from how things operated under former head coach Mike Tomlin. But on Friday, McCarthy clarified his earlier point that even though there wouldn't be any tackling, camp will still be physical.
The changes have been obvious just three days into training camp. The pacing is lightning fast compared to what the Steelers have grown to expect and there is a much greater emphasis on attention to detail. McCarthy even took the benches from the sidelines to keep players up and moving.
