ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — In the span of the first 16 pitches of the night Wednesday, MacKenzie Gore gave up a hard homer, a ringing double and an even harder homer. The Rangers were on their way to an unmitigated disaster.
And you know what: All things considered, it was a pretty good night for the pitching staff.
Especially the bullpen.
Gore rebounded enough to give the Rangers seven bullpen-saving innings in a 3-0 loss to Tampa Bay. Then, 30 minutes after the loss, the Rangers got necessary bullpen reinforcement , acquiring right-handed Chase Silseth from the Los Angeles Angels to fill the need for a leverage arm.
