As the 2026 MLB trade deadline on August 3 approaches, the Philadelphia Phillies ' top needs have come into focus. They really need to upgrade their No. 5 spot in the rotation, their high-leverage bullpen arms, and a right-handed hitting outfielder.
While all of those needs should have options available this summer for trade, it's going to be hard for the Phillies to find upgrades at all of those spots with a weaker farm system.
With that in mind, Matt Gelb of The Athletic predicted that the Phillies would make trades to address all three of those spots, but in a disappointing outcome, land just marginal upgrades at each spot.
