Paul Goldschmidt needed only one swing to make history and carry the Yankees to an important win.
The veteran first baseman launched a solo home run in the fourth inning Friday night, providing the only run in New York’s 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Goldschmidt turned on a pitch from Phillies left-hander Jesús Luzardo and sent it 371 feet to right field. The home run was his 16th of the season, and it ended up being all the support Cam Schlittler and the Yankees’ bullpen needed.
It also placed Goldschmidt in the franchise record book.
