FOXBOROUGH, Mass — As all the players returned to Gillette Stadium for the start of training camp on Friday, July 24, Christian Gonzalez was among them.
The star cornerback is currently in the last year of his rookie deal, but has made it clear he wants to stay in New England as he and the team try to iron out a contract extension. As the deal has yet to be done, his status for training camp was brought into question.
But head coach Mike Vrabel made it clear that he expects Gonzalez to be a full participant.
“He is here. I expect him to participate,” Vrabel said. “So, those contract negotiations are ongoing between the club and his agents. And I’m excited about having Christian back here with us and the impact he can make on our football team. Really enjoy the person, enjoy the player, and that’s what I’m looking forward to.”
