Sidney Brill, a 21-year-old committed to play hockey at the University of Oregon, died July 22. Brill was set to enroll at Oregon this fall.
"Oregon Hockey is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Sidney Brill," UO hockey said in a statement on X. "Our deepest condolences are with Sidney's family, friends, teammates, and everyone whose life he touched during this incredibly difficult time."
Officials have not released any details regarding the circumstances of Brill's death.
Brill was a defenseman who played in various youth leagues on the West Coast before playing in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League in Canada for the Princeton Posse and then Creston Valley Thunder Cats from 2023-26.
Across 115 regular season KIJHL games, Brill scored 11 goals and had 28 assists.
