The University of Michigan will pay departing athletic director Warde Manuel more than $7 million to no longer work for the Ann Arbor-based school, according to the terms of a buyout.
The buyout also notes U-M will continue to provide Manuel's health care and retirement benefits, offer him tickets and golf perks and release him from a contractual requirement to pay the school millions of dollars for leaving his role early.
The agreement is part of broader changes for the Wolverines, coming on the heels of a $12 million private law firm investigating the culture of the department after Manuel fired ex-football coach Sherrone Moore in connection to lying about having an affair with his executive assistant, Paige Shiver.
