Kerby Joseph not expected to be ready for Lions' season opener

Allen Park — Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided several updates on the status of injured players to begin training camp in Allen Park.

The most notable update is that All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph is not expected to be ready for the team's season opener against the New Orleans Saints .

"To me, if we got him back for the first game, that would be a bonus," Campbell said. "That would be like, 'Woah, OK.' I don't expect that. I'm not looking for that. I feel like he's more on the (Brian) Branch plan a little bit, and that's if everything goes well and everything goes according to plan."

Joseph, who has been battling a knee injury since last year's training camp and missed 11 games last season, was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list over the weekend . Campbell said he can't give a "true answer" as to when they expect Joseph back.
