GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — John Paul II will get their season underway a week before most of North Carolina, and began their fall practices a day earlier than most in anticipation of their season opener.
The Saints will play their final season of 8-man football before the program makes the jump to 11-man in 2027. Head coach Sean Murphy enters his 7th season at JP II, and can hardly contain his excitement for the 2026 season.
“It’s awesome,” Murphy said Tuesday. “As a coach, this is what you look forward to, right? All the work. As soon as the last you know, the last snap on in November takes place, you’re starting to prepare for the following year. So it’s just great to be out here. And the fact that our first game is only a couple of you know, it’s August 15, so it’s going be here before we know it. But we’re certainly excited. Our coaches are exciting.
