How close did the Blue Jackets come to going through an arbitration hearing for the first time in franchise history with goalie Jet Greaves ?

Well, put it this way: They needed overtime to cross the finish line on a three-year deal worth $15 million to prevent a hearing that was supposed to begin at 9 a.m. July 23 in Toronto and ultimately wasn’t necessary.
Both sides were prepared for it, though, which Greaves described to reporters in a July 28 teleconference.
“I was in Toronto,” he said. “I was ready to go. I mean, we were there.”
Greaves, who is from the Toronto suburb of Cambridge, showed up for the hearing along with his agent, Pat Brisson, and others from Brisson’s firm. The Blue Jackets were represented by president/general manager Don Waddell , hockey operations vice president Laurence Gilman…
