TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – A local talent will be the voice of the Ichabods on defense.
J.C. Heim shined in 2025 as a sophomore linebacker for Washburn football.
Now, as a junior, head coach Zach Watkins had challenged him to be more vocal, and Heim has already risen to the occasion.
“When I met with him [Heim] after the season, I challenged him to increase his leadership and vocalness in front of the entire team,” Watkins told 27 Sports. “He’s taken that challenge head on from December into now. His stats and success is all a reflection of his hard work.”
The then-sophomore recorded 142 tackles, which led the MIAA and was second in the nation. He added a sack, interception, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
