A 25-year-old graduating student of the University of Jos, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as Ibee, was allegedly killed on Sunday by fellow students over an allegation that he stole a mobile telephone.
The incident was said to have occurred at an off-campus apartment behind the City of David area, along the Ring Road in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The killing has sparked outrage, with many describing it as another case of jungle justice.
A viral video of the assault shows the victim being beaten with wooden planks and canes before he died. The footage has elicited calls for justice from students, experts and members of the public.
A former students’ union leader of the institution, Prince Miaphen, told Daily Trust yesterday that Mbaya, a Political Science student, had attended a social event on campus before deciding to spend the night at a friend’s residence…
