FILE PHOTO - German Minister of State for Sports and Volunteer Work Christiane Schenderlein issues a press statement at the Federal Chancellery regarding the Federal Cabinet’s decision on the Sports Promotion Act, which includes the establishment of an elite sports agency. Kay Nietfeld/dpa Christiane Schenderlein will leave as German State Minister for Sport after just 14 months in the job, amid a wide-ranging reform of elite sport and an upcoming Olympic bid decision in the country.
The government of Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Schenderlein is moving on into the health ministry.
Merz said that a successor for Schenderlein will be announced in due course and he pledged there would be no leadership vacuum in the state sport ministry.
Former German football international Nadine Kessler has been named a potential candidate to succeed Schenderlein.
