Photo by Danny Demilio PITTSBURGH – Family poured into the press conference room at PNC Park on Sunday morning. Other notables in attendance included Pirates manager Don Kelly and shortstop Konnor Griffin to welcome the newest prospect to the organization.
The Pirates officially signed 2026 first-round draft pick Derek Curiel , who was selected out of LSU with the fifth pick in the MLB Draft. The 21-year-old joined general manager Ben Cherington, assistant general manager Kevan Graves and agent Scott Boras at the podium.
“The first step of making my dream come true of being a professional baseball player, and now I have the opportunity and I’m going to do everything I can to make it up and make an impact,” Curiel said.
Curiel joins the Pirates after a prolific two-year run at LSU that included a national championship, two second-team All-SEC selections and an ABCA/Rawlings Gold…
