The Federal Government has inaugurated an inter-ministerial committee to strengthen the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) as part of efforts to reduce the rejection of agricultural exports, improve food security and boost non-oil export earnings.
The committee, inaugurated in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Deborah O. N. Odoh, on behalf of the Minister, Senator Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, is expected to review proposals aimed at improving the operational capacity of NAQS and aligning Nigeria’s agricultural quarantine system with international best practices.
Speaking at the inauguration, Odoh said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing challenges affecting agricultural biosecurity, trade facilitation and economic diversification.
