The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to receive a duo of reinforcements for both sides of the diamond with less than a week until the MLB Trade Deadline as Kiké Hernández and Edwin Díaz are set to make their return to the club.
To make room for Hernández, manager Dave Roberts confirmed on Tuesday to the media via Jack Harris of The California Post and was later announced from the Dodgers that Alex Freeland will be optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Freeland, 24, had not seen significant playing time for the Dodgers, especially with the return of Tommy Edman. In 72 games overall, Freeland slashed .231/.309/.622 across 195 at-bats with three home runs and 19 RBIs.
Hernández, who suffered a torn oblique in just his second game back in late May from being activated off the Injured List following offseason elbow surgery, had made leaps and bounds coming off his injury.
