The Oklahoma City Thunder may have put the Denver Nuggets in one of the toughest positions of the offseason.
By signing restricted free agent Spencer Jones to a two-year, $12 million offer sheet, Oklahoma City didn’t just make a move to improve their own roster. It forced Denver to answer a difficult question: Is Spencer Jones worth keeping at all costs?
From a basketball perspective, the answer feels pretty simple.
Jones is exactly the type of player every contender is looking for. He’s young, athletic, defends multiple positions and has shown he can knock down open threes.
Players like that don’t grow on trees, and when you already have a superstar like Nikola Jokić, having role players who can defend and space the floor becomes even more valuable.
That’s why, if this decision were only about basketball, Denver would probably match the offer without thinking twice.
