Derrick Barnes did not need many words to explain what has changed inside the Detroit Lions’ building.
The expectations are higher. The competition is sharper. And anyone arriving at training camp without the right mindset could find himself looking for another job.
After Detroit missed the playoffs last season, Barnes said the disappointment has created a different level of urgency throughout Allen Park.
“You can feel that energy inside the building,” Barnes said. “We’re not accepting anything less than what we know we are.”
Then came the warning.
“Guys will get left behind if they’re not here to work, get better each and every day and build trust with the coaches and players. If you’re not doing that, then you just won’t be here.”
