New York Giants players opened training camp Wednesday in West Virginia with a visible new marker of commitment on their practice jerseys. Head coach John Harbaugh has imported the merit patch system he introduced during his first season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2008.
The small patches, sewn onto practice jerseys, recognize specific achievements and buy-in. The foundational version, often featuring a flexed arm and hammer design with a star, is awarded to players who attended at least 85 percent of the voluntary offseason workout program.
