Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, plans to donate one-third of his wealth to charity as part of his succession plan, according to his daughter, Halima Dangote.
Halima, a trustee of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, disclosed the arrangement in an interview with Bloomberg, saying the billionaire has secured his family’s support to dedicate 33 per cent of his estate to philanthropy.
With Dangote’s net worth estimated at $35.1 billion by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, one-third of his fortune would amount to about $11.7 billion (N15.9trn) at current valuations.
She said philanthropy is central to her father’s legacy and has been embedded in the family’s long-term succession plans.
